The Fight Against Poverty

If you did not know...Bono is the lead singer of the world's richest band U2. Bono has been campaigning for many years to end the debt that 2/3rd world (changed from 3rd world) countries owe the 1st world countries. The reasoning behind this is Bono's theology formed from the bible. In the Old Testament we find that debts were forgiven in the year of the Jubilee which would occur every 50 years.

I am sure glad it is the weekend. It being flu season it is hard to get rid of a persisent cold. I am planning to get tickets to the U2 concert on April 20th in Denver. It should be a trip. People and their quest for power and respect. We need to forget our differences and band together to effect change in the world around us. This means paying more attention to the needs of the poor. Part of the answer lies in using technology to bring information and better ways of doing things to the 2/3rd world. Part of the answer lies in letting go of our self-centeredness. Well that is my sermon for the day.

Yahweh by U2

Take these shoes
Click clacking down some dead end street
Take these shoes
And make them fit
Take this shirt
Polyester white trash made in nowhere
Take this shirt
And make it clean, clean
Take this soul
Stranded in some skin and bones
Take this soul
And make it sing

Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I’m waiting for the dawn

Take these hands
Teach them what to carry
Take these hands
Don’t make a fist
Take this mouth
So quick to criticise
Take this mouth
Give it a kiss

Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
Yahweh, Yahweh
Still I’m waiting for the dawn

Still waiting for the dawn, the sun is coming up
The sun is coming up on the ocean
This love is like a drop in the ocean
This love is like a drop in the ocean

Yahweh, Yahweh
Always pain before a child is born
Yahweh, tell me now
Why the dark before the dawn?

Take this city
A city should be shining on a hill
Take this city
If it be your will
What no man can own, no man can take
Take this heart
Take this heart
Take this heart
And make it break

NBA

Surging Bulls Fend Off Nuggets

CHICAGO, Jan. 25 (Ticker) -- Eddy Curry shook off an injury, enabling the Chicago Bulls to hold off the Denver Nuggets. Curry, who did not start due to a strained right groin, had 14 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter as the surging Bulls ran their home winning streak to six games with a 111-107 triumph over the Nuggets. The Bulls' young center, who is third in the NBA in shooting percentage, made 7-of-9 shots. He scored nine points in a pivotal 11-6 spurt early in the final period. Rookie Ben Gordon also chipped in late, burying a key 3-pointer with 31 seconds to go. He scored 18 points. Chicago improved to 21-10 since starting the season 0-9 and has held 27 straight opponents under 100 points - the longest current streak in the NBA. The Bulls also are 9-9 against the Western Conference this season and one of just five East teams at .500 or better against the West. Carmelo Anthony scored 32 points for Denver (17-24), which fell to 4-9 under interim coach Michael Cooper.

Don't forget folks to tune in for the NBA All Star Game on Feb. 20th in Denver. It will be exciting. I have hope the Denver Nuggets will make the playoffs again. Carmelo Anthony being only 19 years old still has a lot of good years ahead of him.

Eygptian Collection

Well got to see the Eyptian Collection at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. It is the largest collection ever shown in the USA. The exhibit closes on Jan. 23rd. So sad :( back to Cairo where it belongs. Here is a little blurb about the attraction:

"Windswept sands along the mighty Nile. Hushed pyramids sheltering forgotten secrets. These are the images that whisper of the ancients, giving life to words like Luxor and Karnak, Ramses and Nefertiti.

In Mysteries of Egypt, viewers are taken back to one of the greatest and most intriguing civilizations of all time. Gaze into the eyes of a sphinx. Learn about the treasures of King Tut. And explore the Valley of the Kings."

WoW! It is so interesting! Did you know that Eygptian culture and Jewish culture are linked. How did the Eygptians build such awesome structures and what knowledge they had and how it was lost all of a sudden. Spent about three hours in the museum. Watched the imax movie about Eygpt starring Omar Sharif. It was not bad for an imax documentary.

Well...today went to church...open door fellowship and mar thoma church. The sermon was given by Cindy at Open Door and it was lousy. The mar thoma church sermon was good. It was about spending more time in prayer and coming together as a Christian community. We need to spend less time being busy and more time doing things that ultimately matter. Papachayan had died so 70% of the church was at the memorial service at the Jacobite church. Next week at mar thoma I need to bring 6 bottles of pop...there's going to be a party in my mouth after church.

Looking forward to tomorrow to hang out with my Russian friends Nikolai and Inna and enjoy some good food at Royal India.

Life In General

Dear Viewers,

Feeling better! Start of another week. Had a good day today with 9 applicants wanting to join the drug treatment program that is the Providence House. Intake interviews took about 3 hours, I felt it was productive time helping the drugged up and destitute get off the streets. In a few minutes I need to go to my second job where I look after teenage deliquent youth. In a few days I'm going to check out the Eygptian collection at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Look for a post on this.

Sickly

Today was spent on bed rest. Last night my eyes started watering as I took a nap with my contacts in. Had a hard time getting them contacts out of my eyes. Then a severe headache took over. Well...I knew then that my plans for going to work were shot. Called in sick and today I plan to brave the snow and head to work around 11 pm. Work that time consuming passion that keeps one going regardless of circumstance. I plan to get a doctor's appointment. Rest my friend...rest does the body good.

Meant To Live by Switchfoot

Fumbling his confidence
And wondering why the world has passed him by
Hoping that he’s bent for more than arguments
And failed attempts to fly, fly

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside

Dreaming about Providence
And whether mice or men have second tries
Maybe we’ve been livin with our eyes half open
Maybe we’re bent and broken, broken

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside
Somewhere we live inside
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
Somewhere we live inside

We want more than this world’s got to offer
We want more than this world’s got to offer
We want more than the wars of our fathers
And everything inside screams for second life yeah

We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live for so much more
Have we lost ourselves?
We were meant to live
We were meant to live

Incarnation

But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah,
though you are small among the
clans of Judah,
out of you will come for me
one who will be ruler over Israel,
whose orgins are from of old,
from ancient times.

Therefore Israel will be abandoned
until the time when she who is in
labor gives birth
and the rest of his brothers return
to join the Israelites.

He will stand and shepherd his flock
in the strength of the Lord,
in the majesty of the name of the
LORD his God.
And they will live securely, for then
his greatness
will reach to the ends of the earth.
And he will be their peace.

The black album

This book is like a comforter,
A quilt with many parts,
A keeper of our memories,
A place to warm our hearts.

The fabric is life's events
Those things we want to keep,
Those programs, stubs, and
photographs, placed here-
not in a heap!

The scraps all stitched together,
held fast with love and care,
Create a family legacy,
a gift for all to share.
