Life in Philly

The 26th mar thoma annual youth conference was great. Here is what we did:

Thursday got there at 10:30 am to set up and help out the Bethel Mar Thoma Church in Philly. Hung out and checked out the local wendy's for lunch. Registration started at 3 pm and dinner was at 6 pm. The bishops gave an address in the evening. Icebreakers later in the evening and social hour with lights out at 12:00 pm (not likely).

Friday: Highlight was the Hawaiian theme night with some people in grass skirts. We did different skits to entertain ourselves which was fun and drank lots of punch with little umbrellas in them. Played volleyball in the afternoon that day which was a lot of fun on a nice grass lawn with lots of old buildings near by. Also I was one of the five contestants in the mr. mar thoma contest. We had to act silly and showcase some of our talents. I wrote a rap song for my final act. I could not get the questions right regarding the names of our bishops. It was good fun and I almost won mr. mar thoma but was happy to come runner up. Can't blame the judging. Too much support from the New York delegates for their homeboy.

Saturday: More discussion groups and saw a video on purity. Had a little recreation time which I spent catching up on phone calls.

Sunday: Said my goodbyes to my new best friends and went to Allentown, PA to hang with some relatives on my dad side.

Monday: Came back to Philly in the morning. Played basketball in the evening.

Tuesday: Woke up at 8:45 am and made a call to my aunt in Pittsburgh to establish times for a quick visit there by air. Planed tenatively right now for a noon time departure on Thursday and arrive back around noon on Saturday. Plan to go to New York City tomorrow if possible from my base of operations during my vacation (Philly).

Until then...

Philly

I will fly to Philadelphia, PA on Wednesday. I am excited! I will be attending a conference for four days and then I will be visiting with relatives. It will be a nice change from Denver. I arrive back in Denver on July 31st. Me and cousin Rueben (from England) had a great visit and here are some pictures.

Inspiration

Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.

Words at the base of the statue of liberty.

The 4th of July

Whoa! It has been a busy week. I worked like 50 hours this week. Got some extra hours at the school. Todd's birthday party at Bennys was a lot fun. The staff at the Providence House took this fine individual out for his birthday. I had a wonderful field trip to the Children's Museum with the kids from the school on Friday. Never thought about all the clever ways adults design things to teach kids new things. Lately, I been thinking about our need as adults to get in touch with our child like creative and fun loving side. It is so easy to get lost in a phase of pseudo-rationality.

Happy Reunification Day to all you Hong Kongers (July 1st). I know Donald Tsang (the new Chief Executive of Hong Kong) will do a great job. Why no fireworks any more on this day? Canada's birthday also falls on July 1st. I'm so glad I get the day off for the 4th of July. America's birthday has gained more meaning after September 11th. The design for the Freedom Tower in New York looks awesome. It really does evoke the feeling of the statue of liberty. I'm debating going on a hike on the 4th of July. The bbq comes out during all American festivals. I take pride in celebrating all American festivals. Get to view the Denver fireworks this year as opposed to the Englewood fireworks in previous years. Wasn't Live 8 wonderful! Good to see the globe so united in fighting poverty. My cousin Reuben comes Wednesday night so I am eager to show him the sights around Colorado. Reuben leaves Sunday morning. Have not seen him since 1991. Reuben is from Manchester, UK and currently studying to be a medical doctor. Planning my vacation in Philly. Hope I get to see the ocean again. Later my fellow aliens.
